Pancreatic Cancer Targeted Grants

In 2017, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will invest $12.8 million in innovative research, a 33 percent increase over last year. This investment includes both our competitive, peer-reviewed Research Grants Program and our internal research initiatives. We are now accepting applications for our 2017 funding opportunities.  Please see full details in the RFAs.

Precision Medicine Targeted Grant
Amount: Up to $1,000,000 | Duration: Up to two years
Funding available for projects that can be incorporated directly into the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s Precision Promise initiative at the end of the funding period.
DEADLINE: February 15, 2017, Noon EST

Early Detection Targeted Grant
Amount: Up to $1,000,000 in milestone-driven units of $250,000 | Duration: Up to four years
Supports studies to utilize a cohort of new onset diabetics with high risk of sporadic pancreatic cancer; projects will focus on blood biomarkers or imaging strategies.
DEADLINE: February 22, 2017, Noon EST

KRAS Travel Scholarship (in partnership with the NCI Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research)
Provides travel support to a researcher at any career stage, during or after the postdoctoral level, to visit FNLCR to pursue KRAS research that is directly relevant to pancreatic cancer with aims aligned with the RAS Initiative
Amount: Depending on need

Damon Runyon Fellowship Award

The foundation encourages all theoretical and experimental research relevant to the study of cancer and the search for cancer causes, mechanisms, therapies and prevention.

The primary criteria used to evaluate applicants are:

  • the quality of the research proposal (importance of the problem, originality of approach, appropriateness of techniques and clarity of presentation)
  • the qualifications, experience and productivity of both the candidate and the Sponsor
  • the quality of the research training environment in which the proposed research is to be conducted and its potential for broadening and strengthening the candidate's ability to independently conduct innovative and substantive research. The proposed research and training environment should represent a new opportunity for the candidate to expand his/her scientific skill set. Direct extensions of the candidate's graduate work (in approach, technique or exact area of study) will not be funded.

Due Dates:   March 15, 2017 (application); May 5, 2017 (selection meeting date)
Amount & Project Period:   The award provides a stipend of $223,000 over four years. The award may not be used for institutional overhead or indirect costs. Fellows also receive an annual $2,000 expense allowance for educational and scientific expenses.

Rosenblith New Investigator Award

Health Effects Institute (HEI) has established the Walter A. Rosenblith New Investigator Award to provide funding for outstanding investigators who are beginning independent research. By providing financial support for investigators at this early point in their careers, HEI hopes to encourage highly qualified individuals to undertake research on the health effects of air pollution. The candidates may have training and experience in any of the many branches of science relevant to air pollution. This award supports creative junior investigators, at Assistant Professor or equivalent level, with outstanding promise who are interested in the health effects of air pollution.

Due Dates:  February 15, 2017 (Preliminary Application); May 15, 2017 (Full Application)
Amount:  Up to $150,000 per year for three years ($450,000 total)

Expanded! NCI, FREDERICK NATIONAL LABORATORY FOR CANCER RESEARCH KRAS FELLOWSHIP
Amount: $100,000 | Duration: Two years
Supports a postdoctoral or clinical research fellow to conduct KRAS research that is directly relevant to pancreatic cancer with aims aligned with the RAS Initiative
Application deadline: October 27, 2016, noon Eastern Time

NCI, FREDERICK NATIONAL LABORATORY FOR CANCER RESEARCH KRAS TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP
Amount: Depending on need
Provides travel support to a researcher at any career stage, at or after the postdoctoral level, to visit FNLCR to pursue KRAS research that is directly relevant to pancreatic cancer with aims aligned with the RAS Initiative

AACR PATHWAY TO LEADERSHIP GRANT
Amount: $600,000 | Duration: Five years
Supports a highly promising postdoctoral or clinical research fellow in the mentored research phase and in the transition to research independence

TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH GRANT
Amount: $300,000 | Duration: Two years
Supports an independent investigator leading a cross-disciplinary team conducting translational research that has as its endpoint the development of a pancreatic cancer assessment, prevention or treatment modality

2017 Technology Awards

To encourage and support scientists working on the development of novel and creative approaches to understanding brain function. The McKnight Endowment Fund for Neuroscience is interested in how a new technology may be used to monitor, manipulate, analyze, or model brain function at any level, from the molecular to the entire organism. Technology may take any form, from biochemical tools to instruments to software and mathematical approaches. Because the program seeks to advance and enlarge the range of technologies available to the neurosciences, research based primarily on existing techniques will not be considered.
